I’ve been part of the Games for 60 years... athletes don’t forget helpful volunteers

Sir Peter Heatly in the Scottish Sun

SPORTSMAN Sir Peter Heatly has been involved in SIXTEEN Commonwealth Games — and he is urging everyone to get involved in Glasgow 2014.

The diving ace, who first won gold in the 1950 Auckland Games, wants folk to volunteer for next year’s extravaganza before Thursday’s deadline.

Sir Peter won three consecutive gold medals, one silver and one bronze during his career and he said: “I’ve been associated with the Commonwealth Games for over 60 years.

"The first one was New Zealand in 1950, and I’ve been at every one since.

“I’ve been to 16 Games and Glasgow 2014 will be my 17th, I’ll be 90 by then so I’ll have something of a celebration.

It's not just athletes at the heart of the Games

The search for volunteers to help deliver the largest sporting and cultural event ever hosted in Scotland will give 15,000 people the opportunity to become a part of history at the heart of an unforgettable Commonwealth Games.

No previous experience is necessary for the majority of roles with the emphasis on finding volunteers who are friendly, welcoming and dedicated to making the Games a success. Those suited to more specialist roles can list their skills in their application while there is a wide range of general opportunities in areas such as Transport, Spectator Services and Sport Competition.
