Phil Potter (Swimming)

For the past 16 years, Phil Potter has nurtured the talent of young performers as the head coach of Heart of Midlothian Amateur Swimming Club, based in Edinburgh. He is also a lead coach with the Scottish Swimming National Programme and the Scottish Youth Squad.

Phil is responsible for the leadership of these programmes, which comprises of 10 part-time and voluntary coaches working at a number of venues in Edinburgh with a group of 12 emerging swimmers aged between 14 and 18.

Recent evidence of Phil’s ability to encourage and develop his swimmers came at the FINA World Junior Championships in Indianapolis, where two of his protégés competed for GB. His ‘team approach’ philosophy, around physical preparation, technical development and athlete welfare, is also working wonders for the national programme, with his Scotland team winning eight medals at the Bahamas 2017 Commonwealth Youth Games.
