Scottish Masters
The Scottish Masters took place at Scotstoun on 20/21st April. It was a successful meet despite limitations in electronics. East District masters teams were well represented and it was good to see teams like Carnegie, Dunfermline and Incas growing in numbers. East District Masters Sprint Meet
A survey was sent out to masters swimmers within the East District to advise that there were some funds available to encourage Masters swimming within the district and to establish how masters would like this money to be spent. The options were a training day, training camp or fun/sprint type meet. The results of the survey were a fun/sprints type gala. Deans High School in Livingston has been booked for 18th August 2012 and the meet will be open to East District masters swimmers only. Susan Liddle is pulling the meet information together and has secured the services of Ralph on the electronics. John Bruce has added the date to his diary as referee and I have asked Tony Dane, Margaret Somerville, Colin Kennedy and Susan MacFarlane if they could save the date to officiate – formal invitations will be sent for officials once the programme/timings are confirmed.
East District Masters Open Meet – November 24th
Stuart has been busy organising this meet and the pool is booked and licence applied for. Some changes have been made to the format this year in order to keep the gala within the time limits for example the 400m swims will not be included in the £20 entry fee and the fee now includes 5 swims as opposed to 6. Young masters (aged 16 to 17) will now have their own top club trophy separate from the overall top club.

InCAS – British Gas National Masters & Age Group Championships Report
A small raiding party of InCAS swimmers headed South over the weekend of 26-28 October, to compete within the British Gas National Masters & Age Group Short Course Championships hosted at the international venue of Ponds Forge, Sheffield and it took one swimmer a total of 100 seconds to collect 3 British National Titles and establish 3 new Scottish Masters swimming records!
Competing in the 25- 29 years age group, 29 year old Thomas Davidson added 3 British titles to the British title he won in June of this year, also in Sheffield.
Davidson secured the titles of British Masters Champion in the 50m Butterfly with a time of 25.31; the 100m Freestyle in 51.55; and his winning time in the 50m freestyle of 23.19 produced the 10th fastest 50m freestyle of all time in Scotland, only 0.8 sec behind Scottish record holder Richard Shaffers of Edinburgh University, and the fastest recorded 50m Freestyle this year by a Scottish swimmer.
Thomas said of his results ‘after missing my train Friday evening, enforcing an unplanned drive through a snow storm in Newcastle, and arriving just before midnight on the eve of my 3 swims, I was really up against it. My results are so pleasing and a great launch pad for me to concentrate on my chosen events- who knows what possible’.
Also swimming for InCAS in the 35 – 39 age group, 35 year old Alex Balman who continues to swim lifetime personal bests in his chosen events. Alex placed 8th in the 50m Butterfly in 28.31; an 8th place in the 50m Freestyle, 26.16; a 9th place in the 100m Butterfly in a 1.06.05; and 15th in the 100m Freestyle in 56.80.
Graeme Hunter competing in the 18-24yr age group took Bronze in the 200m freestyle in 1.57.60, and recorded a 27.85 in the 50m Butterfly; 24.40 from the 50m Freestyle, and a 53.91 from the 100m Freestyle, posting near lifetime best.
The masters swimming section continues to develop well at InCAS and in the past 5 months InCAS have secured 4 British Champion titles and set 4 new Scottish Masters records.
