Congratulations to East District swimmers who went down to Swansea to swim in the British Masters Longcourse in June. Ian McKay of WBC won a gold in the 60-64 age group 50 fly and 50 free. Mark Jones WBC won a Silver in the 55-59 age group 100 &200 breast, and bronze in the 200IM. Warrender's 200-239 age group relay, consisting of Jonathan Borland; Jason Kenney; Ian McKay and Mark Jones won silver in both the 200 freestyle and medley relays.

 

 

Fantastic turn ot for the Scottish Masters held at RCP  on 19-20th April with 356 entries and 1672 swims. Heart Of Midlothian were 3rd top club with 379 points narrowly beating Warrender into 4th with 373 points. Scottish Records were broken by Ruth Millar HML 25-29 year old 50 Free in 27.03 ; Ally McGregor Warrender in the 70-74 year old age group breaking the 200 Free record  (by a huge 7 seconds),in  2.41.60  and the 100 Free in 1.10.08;  Ian McKay Warrender in the 60-64 year old 50 Free in a time of 27.52.  Best In Age Group Winners from the District were John McDonald HML (25-29) Janet McLean Carnegie (45-49) Jen Davies  Warrender (25-29) and Sandy Galletly (75-79). It was a great weekend, very well run, with much appraciated support from the District.

Janet McLean Carnegie secured five World Top Ten Rankings in 2018. 2nd in 200Fly Longcourse 4th in 200fly & 400IM Shortcourse and 8th in 1500m Free shortcourse. Congratulations Janet

Congratulations to Janet McLean Winner of the Peter Heatly Trophy2018

Janet started her impressive career in the 1980’s as an 8 year old with
Warrender Baths, and hasn’t taken a break from competitive swimming in the
last 35 years.

 


Over this time she has accumulated twenty Scottish Masters records, adding
another three to her tally this year; breaking the 45-49 year old short course
records in the 400 IM, 200 Back and 1500 Free.
She is consistently in the World Top Ten rankings, ranked World No 2 in 400IM,
and No 3 in 200 fly in 2016, adding the 200 Back to these events in the 2017
rankings.

 


Janet  has won Gold Medals at three European Masters; winning the
400 free in the Ukraine in 2011, the 200 Fly in Eindhoven in 2013 and Slovenia
this summer she won the 100 Fly.

 


She has achieved all this while completing a PhD, which has led her to a
demanding career as a University lecturer in Psychology, raising her two sons,
and coaching at Carnegie Swimming Club.

 


She is a much-respected member of the master’s community and an
inspiration to others, young and old involved in the sport.

 

 

Well done to WBC who won the top team Trophy at the East District Masters this year, with Hearts in 3rd. Some good swims and well done to the Overall Age Group winners from the East : Euan Dalgleish SWL (18-24); Ben Sharp WBC (25-29); Dave Taylor HML (30-34); Chris Moncrieff Inverleith (60-64) Raymond Bain Musselburgh (70-74); Anna Galloway WBC (17 &U) Rebecca Laing WBC (18-24); Jenn Davies WBC and Ruth Millar HML (25-29) Carol Lock HML (30-34) Karen Fergusson Tranent (35-39) Sue Hoole WBC (45-49); Anne Ewing WBC (50-54) The Winners of the Sprint Trophies for the fastest Age Converted 50m was Erin Robertson Edinburgh Uni, and Chris Moncrieff Inverlieth. The Age Converted 400m event was won by Jenn Davies WBC 5.05.10 for a 400 Back, and Dave Taylor HML for his 400 Breast time of 5.45.00.

 

 

Congratulations to the East District Swimmers who won their Age Groups in the Scottish 1500m Event in 2018. Carol Lock HML (30-35) ; Janet McLean Carnegie (45-49) breaking the Scottish Record ;  Nathan Kennedy LDD (18-24); David Taylor HML (30-34); Ron Nolan WBC (50-54);  

Fantastic swim from Ruth Millar HML (25-29) at Sheffield with a new Scottish Record in the 50 free of 27.08. Ruth also came home with a further 3 silvers in the 400 free. 100 free, and 50 breast, and a bronze in the 200 IM. Other medal winners were David Taylor HML (30-34) silver in 200 BS and  Fraser McKane Swim IT (25-29) 200 Back.

 

Congratulations to Janet McLean (45-49) of Carnegie who competed at the European Masters in Slovenia this week, winning a gold in the 100 fly, two silvers in the 400 free, and 200 fly, as well as a bronze in the 200 free. Ian McKay of Musselburgh ASC won a bronze in the 50 fly, setting a new British Record for the 60-64 year old age group of 29.6s

Connor Wilson HML (25-29) 3 Golds in the Breaststroke events and 2 silvers in the Backstroke events; Vicki McRae HML (40-44) Gold in 100 fly, Silver in 200fly and 3 Bronze in the 800 free, 400free, 50 fly; Fiona Donald Swim IT (25-29) Bronze in 50 free, 50 & 100 Back; and to Nathan Kennedy LDD (18-24) Gold in 800 free

Fantastic Results from the East at the 2018 Scottish Masters at Tollcross this April. 5 Scottish Records broken by ED swimmers, 3 for Connor Wilson HML in the 25-29 year old 200 B/C (2.11.48), 100B/C (58.40) and 200 Breast (2.17.79) 2 for Janet Mclean, Carnegie,  in the 45-49 year old 400 IM (5.30.66) and 200 B/C (2.40.92). 5 Age Group Winners went to the East, John McDonald HML 19-24 mens Connor Wilson HML 25-29 Men, Carol Lock HML 30-34 Women, Vicki McRae HML 40-45 Women, Sue Hoole WBC 45-49 year old women. Overall Top Club was Silver City, with Warrender 2nd on 391 points, HML 3rd on 364 points, 70 points ahead of the 4th club Ren 96.

Great results from the East District at the 2017 Scottish Masters held at the Inverness Aquadome in April.  Vicky Macrae - HML and Janet McLean - Carnegie were both overall winners in their respective age groups. Nine clubs from the District were represented and our swimmers won 39 Golds, 45 Silvers and 18 Bronze medals between them, with swimmers participating from the youngest 20-24 age group up to the 70-74 age group. Fantastic effort!

 Excellent start to the season for Heart of Midlothian Masters, who won top club at Carslisle Masters in January, and 2nd top visiting club at Silver City earlier this month.

 

Entires for both the Scottish short course in Inverness on 21-22 April, and the British longcourse in Aberdeen on 16-18th June are now open. Links to the entires can be found in the competition section.
