Congratulations to Richie Metcalfe on being awarded the East District President’s Plate.

As with a lot of people, Ritchie’s journey began when his children started as young swimmers and progressed into water polo but this transcended into a passion from being a supportive parent into coach, mentor and a voice within the Water Polo community.

This was the start of a journey that sees a 30-year involvement at all levels within Water Polo.

His involvement is born of commitment and dedication to a sport he clearly loves and the need to inspire others to the same level.

Ritchie likes nothing more than mentoring others and encouraging young athletes and volunteers alike to find the enjoyment and confidence to take up challenges and finding a pride in the Sport and everyone involved.

The leadership he has given to his club in formatting and creating the framework for operation and leading the drive to success for the Club’s teams which has shone and seen major and consistent successes.

Ritchie was Team manager for Scottish Water Polo for many years helping the senior squads, and bringing consistency before finally handed over this mantle in 2016.

He continues to sit on the Scottish Water Polo Committee and bring clarity and consistency to conversations due to the extensive knowledge and level-headed communication skills, ensuring that the sport always looks forward.

From stepping down from Team Manager. Ritchie took on the role as East District President in 2017 where he brought the same diligence to this role as he has in everything he turns a hand to.

Not one to sit and do nothing, he went on to become Fife Treasurer, only giving this up in 2025 (mind he had tried several times before but the key to the ball and chain had disappeared)

Ritchie was and has been instrumental in the starting and embedding development days within the district, which started off small but have grown to where clubs ‘fight’ to be a part of these.

Reports given by this person shows and reads the passion they feel for this and all the young people and parents that are involved and this encouragement and positive vibe has shown their true ability to motivate and encourage all that come into contact this unique person

It is with great pride and personal respect that the ‘Presidents Plate’ is awarded to Ritchie Metcalfe
