Success for East District Waterpolo at the 2026 Scottish Championships

2026 Scottish Championships Summary

East District Clubs continue to lead the way with at least one district club in every one of the six finals on 6 Jun.

For the first time in several years the event returned to Tollcross.  In addition to teams attending with their staff and vocal supporters with drums and horns; the district clubs also contributed a significant number of Volunteers, Table Officials, Marshalls and Referees as well as supplying equipment, all of which helped make this event a success.

This year Dunfermline led the way with 4 wins from 4 finals, Warrender featured in 3 finals and Portobello in the Senior Open.

Every match felt worthy of a final: close, competitive, and often undecided until later in the game, when the eventual winners pulled away to secure the title.

Joe Mathieson also received the 2026 East District Junior Player of the Year trophy before playing in the Senior Men final.

A special well done and thank you to the organiser Wendy Tubi (SWP Chair – Stingrays) along with those who supported her in the organising of a successful 2026 Scottish Championships programme culminating in the finals; the Technical officials who supported all 5 dates, The BMC Water Polo Cup team (Ali C, Holly and Keith plus others) with their website, media, commentary and musical background along with the Scottish Water Polo Comms and Scottish Swimming media support.
