This weekend the BMC Cup for U18 girls gets underway at Carnegie starting at 6pm tonight (Friday) with a home nations feel about the tournament. Ten top club teams from Wales, 5 English, 4 Scottish and 2 Irish will battle out over the weekend. Full information can be found at https://www.thebmccup.co.uk/ or their social media.
Dunfermline and Menzieshill have combined to form joint teams whilst Warrender include Stingrays and Portobello players.
This, the BMC festival and Boys event, are entirely volunteer run; BMC is led by the Campbell boys and has become a regular fixture in the waterpolo calendar. In addition to their website showing stats, results etc, all games will be livestreamed from Carnegie, a table officials’ course is being run by the top English official, a delegate from England will also mentor and provide feedback to referees and there are usually presentations over the weekend, this Saturday it’s on nutrition. In addition to the competition, it hopefully ticks many of its wider development aims.
· Recently Scottish U16 boys competed in the Be Water My Friend (BWMF) tournament in Spain.
·The SWP Young Academy programme has just restarted. Previously based at RCP on a Fri night, the academy is now based at Carnegie on Sat afternoons; many District members are attending and taking the lead in the delivery.
· Saturday 5 Sep Caledonia boys head to Manchester for a club tournament.
· On 19 Sep our first Development tournament of this season will get underway at Carnegie. Three Further dates are already planned between now and Xmas.
· British WP League gets underway this month with Caledonia 1st team in Div 1, Portobello Men in Div 2 (both on 26 Sep but different venues) and Caledonia Women in Women Div 2 (19 Sep at Sandwell). The National conference starts on the 26 Sep with Caledonia Storm men travelling to Coventry. Caledonia U18 boys will also take part in the National Conference Div 2 when they travel to Walsall Baths on 19 Sep.
· Scottish National Leagues get underway later this month, draft schedule has been published for age group teams with Men and Women leagues still to be arranged.
· Later this month, SCO junior boys will be heading to Greece for a warm weather camp in preparation for the EU Nations International tournament in Brno, Czech Republic. Each trip will be a financial challenge for parents at approx. £1000 per player per trip.
