Warrender Baths Club’s Laurel Bailey was awarded a well deserved Life Membership of SASA East District at the 2025 East District AGM.
The fact that Laurel is actually with us is down to a very fortunate but totally random meeting on a train in Athens in 2,004 during  an around the world trip. The conversation, as you would expect, turned to swimming, and being a keen swimming fan, though not a swimmer, an invitation was given, that when and if they reached Scotland and Edinburgh work would be offered.
A call came in about the November of that year, .asking if the offer of work is still open, and it was.  After a few months, having taking on many different roles within swimming, including learn to swim and admin work, Laurel decided to take a trip and go to Machu and do the Machu Picchu trip. However, the ties to Edinburgh had been already formed, and family ties had already been made, and that brought this person back to us bonus for us. She has coached many great swimmers during their time, and we won’t name them, because that would be unfair to the many and the few.
Many hours have been given freely to East District and to clubs and to the Lothian region, and intending meetings, being part of committees, and willingly being a sounding board for all of these, and coaches alike. Out with swimming She is an avid reader, and enjoys the outdoors and nature. When home is calling, you can actually see the excitement rise in this person when they know that they’re going home for a visit.
Congratulations to Laurel Bailey
